Abstract: Ralph Boston, U.S. Olympian in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, and a member of the Tennessee State A and I University track team, stands with friends from Tennessee A and I State University, now Tennessee State University. Boston's specialty was the long jump, and he won a gold medal in the 1960 Rome Olympic games, a silver medal in the 1964 Toyko Olympics and a bronze medal in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

Abstract: Tigerbelles Edith McGuire and Wyomia Tyus of Tennessee A and I State University (now Tennessee State University) sit upon a suitcase, surrounded by their luggage at the Nashville Municipal Airport prior to traveling to Toyko, Japan for the 1964 Olympic Games. They were members of the 4x100 relay team that won a silver medal. Tyus won the gold medal and McGuire the silver medal in the 100 meters. McGuire won the gold medal for the 200 meters.

Abstract: This piece of sheet music is included in a bound volume that once belonged to Miss Nora Gardner, a Tennesee resident. This particular piece is a compilation of "Virginia Reels" and includes the following compositions: "Old Virginia" (006210-SMVOL), "Richmond Hill" (006211-SMVOL), "Villalave" (006212-SMVOL), "Petersburg Ladies" (006213-SMVOL), "The Hero" (006214-SMVOL), "Peter Francisco" (006215-SMVOL), "22d. of February" (006216-SMVOL), "The Island" (006217-SMVOL), and "The Richmond Blues" (006218-SMVOL). The cover page is "Dedicated to Thomas Ritchie Esq. of Washington City." There is no publication date listed. However, it was most likely published in the years 1851 to 1852, inferred from Goertzen and Jabbour, American Music 5 (1987).

Title: Aviation Show

Abstract: Airplanes at an aviation show in Clarksville, Tennessee. The Clarksville Airport was named Outlaw Field to honor Colonel Outlaw who was known as the father of aviation in Clarksville. He was killed by lightning while serving with the Army Air Force in World War II. On October 19, 1943, a ceremony to honor Colonel Outlaw was held at Outlaw Field. A granite monument was dedicated to his memory.

Title: Outlaw Field

Abstract: Opening ceremonies of the Clarksville airport were held in 1929 and the airport was designated Outlaw Field to honor Colonel John Outlaw. In the 1920's John F. Outlaw began operating a private field in the northern part of Montgomery County. Colonel Outlaw was killed by lightning on July 27, 1942, while serving with the Army Air Force in World War II. A group of citizens purchased land necessary for an airport. This purchase of 225 acres from J. C. Caroland paved the way for additional purchases and expansion of services and facilities. Listed in unknown order are Miss Francis Rollow, John Outlaw, Pete Neblette, Long, Berkley, Sterchie, Jake Cotham, Louis Edwards, Louie Gasser, Albert Gasser, Bill Irby, Dick Hoffman, and Lt. Douglas.
