Abstract: This collection consists of a Confederate food inventory from the Office of Chief Commissary of General Simon B. Bolivar`s Division dated November 14, 1863. The inventory includes the thousands of pounds of beef, sugar, and bacon received between November 9 and November 14, 1864 as Confederate General James Longstreet`s army was preparing for the attack on Knoxville, Tennessee.

Title: Simon Cameron in Washington, D.C. to Isham G. Harris in Nashville, Tennessee

Abstract: Simon Cameron, U.S. Secretary of War, sent this formal,typed letter to Governor Isham G. Harris of Tennessee to request an immediate detachment of two militia regiments in accordance with and act of Congress from 1795 to suppress insurrections and repel invasions. There is a table listing the requirement of each state. The soldiers were to be between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, in good health, and were to serve for a period of three months, unless discharged sooner. The rendezvous points for mustering were to be in Nashville and Knoxville.

Abstract: This piece has a lithograph on the cover of a kneeling, finely dressed young woman with her hands folded as if in prayer. Inscribed on the cover is "Presented to NOra E. Gardner by Eliza Gooding, 'My Sorority,' Columbia, Sep. 1, 1861." There is no date of publication; however, the date of 1860 was inferred from another piece of sheet music in the same bound volume belonging to Miss Nora Gardner of Tennessee.

Title: Petition for a Proclamation to Save East Tennessee Rebels

Abstract: Prominent Knoxville citizens such as Thomas W. Humes, Episcopal clergyman and later president of the University of Tennessee, E. J. Sanford, owner of a drug firm, and W.C. Kyle are among the petitioners who ask Governor Brownlow for a proclamation to protect those who sympathized with the "late Rebellion." According to the petition, rebels who return under the parole agreed at the end of the war have been greeted by violence and threats. The petitioners worry of impending lawlessness if the situation is allowed to continue. They ask the governor to issue a proclamation instructing those with grievances against the former rebels to use peaceful and legal means through the courts. The petition has more than two pages of signatures. Governor Brownlow issued the requested proclamation on May 29, 1865.
