Concider the image presented by these visitors to the fair with the starkly absurd image presented by the fliers foe the Appalachian Exposition showing African-Americans picking cotton on a plantation with as a "upper class" white couple idly watch. Written on the reverse side,"Cruising to the 1910 Appalachian Exposition at Chilhowee park. Young lady with parasol is Mrs. Bessie Richards. The young girl in the center is Mrs. Margaret Singleton Carson."
