Title: Goering's Home, Berchtesgaden, Germany Photographer : unknown Date Created: 1945-08 Abstract: An image of the home of Hermann Goring after the Allied troops began destroying Nazi party members' homes in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Goring was the second in command of the Third Reich, and captured by American troops on May 9, 1945. Goring was sentenced to execution at the Nuremberg Trials, but took his own life the night prior to his hanging. Berchtesgaden was purchased by the Nazis in the 1920s for their senior officers, and served as an outpost for the German Reichskanzlei office. The mountains were home to Nazi leaders and the area included a station, postoffice and the Berchtesgadener Hof Hotel. Most of the buildings in Berchtesgaden were destroyed immediately after the war. Title: Photographs of the Cherry Hill tornado in Kingsport, Tennessee Photographer : unknown Date Created: 1933-03 Abstract: These photographs show the devastation of the tornado that hit Kingsport, Tennessee, in March of 1933. The images are of the damage to Tate G. Crockett's property. Eight people died in the tornado, including Crockett. Hundreds of individuals were injured during the tornado. The Red Cross and the Salvation Army established relief stations to handle the emergency and local physicians volunteered their efforts in aiding the people.
