Title: STC Became a State College, 1943

Abstract: The student body had much to do with the push toward state college status at Middle Tennessee State Teachers College. One student wrote in an editorial in Sidelines (the campus newspaper) that the student body should work together to "get rid of this tongue twisting paragraph that has heretofore been our name." Although the change was not approved officially by the state legislature until late 1943, it was announced to a joyous student body in 1942.

Notable are the sections on the arts, the equestrian program and May Day. The brochure is rich with photographs of the college grounds and students engaged in a variety of college activities.

The poster noted that the officers were Simon Patterson, president, and Hardy Hall, Vice-president. The event billed itself as "American's First Negro Fair" and encouraged people to "Keep Your Children in Union High School."
