Abstract: The typed description on the back of the photograph reads: This group occupied the first Barracks built for Co. 1455 - Barracks #1. All were a part of the Camp Overhead section = Leaders; Cooks; Camp Maintenance men; Truck Drivers etc. Although there are many camps that had their #1 Barracks this is significant to Co. 1455 Camp Cordell Hull as the occupants of the first barracks and did a lot of camp site work during the 1st year.

Abstract: Two photographs show the bent hickory tree that is rooted at both ends. One includes the mess hall in the background and two shirtless C.C.C. workers sitting upon the tree. Included with these photographs is a letter and envelope from Ripley's Believe It or Not, which states that this item will be depicted in the Believe It or Not cartoons on about November 14, 1935. The address on the envelope shows that Howell was at C.C.C. Camp 3464, Cumberland Homesteads, in Crossville, Tennessee.
