Abstract: Three images of Judge William Henry DeWitt who was born in Smith County, Tennessee in 1827. DeWitt was a member of the Tennessee State Legislature from 1855-57; a Delegate from Tennessee to the Confederate Provisional Congress from 1861-62; and a State Court Judge in Tennessee in 1872. He died in Chattanooga on April 11, 1896.

There are several parked cars in front of the courthouse and one truck at the traffic light. The courthouse was built in 1897 by the Gaylon Seldon Company. The architects were the Bauman Brothers.

Abstract: Barton was born in Grainger County, Tennessee. He served in the Superior of Tennessee after working as a lawyer in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Barton spoke out against secession, but he aided Tennessee in its war effort working with the East Tennessee,Virginia, and Georgia Railroad following Tennessee's secession.
