The property was sold, and the proceeds given to David Lipscomb College for the establishment of a scholarship fund for African-American students. Joe C. Car was the Secretary of State of Tennessee at that time.

The victim, John Walker Jr. was also a native. Springstin and Foreman employeed E.M. Churchill and Spencer Jarnigan to defend them and the case was sent to the United States Supreme Court.
