Abstract: Initially a member of the 101st airborne division military police, Gaskell Warren is transferred to the 503rd airborne division military police in Germany. The 503rd was moved to Fort Bragg in 1949 to train MP in America.

Abstract: Gaskell Warren stands at the entry to the St. Mihiel American cemetery in Thiaucourt, France. St. Mihiel commemorates the death of more than 4,000 American military during World War I. The majority of the casualties buried there were involved in the first American battle in World War I, which was the successful effort to extricate Germans from the French town near Paris.

Abstract: This photograph depicts a view of the public square looking west. Union Army encampment structures are surrounding the courthouse, which is situated on the left, unseen on the photograph. A stone and brick wall that surrounded the lawn is partially demolished; Union soldiers used the wall's materials to construct chimneys for their tents. An iron fence replaced the wall in 1870. The town well is visible to the right.

Title: The Director's home at the Mountain Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers

Abstract: These images are of the renovated house which served as the director's residence when the National Soldiers Home operated at Mountain Home, Tennessee. Today, the area houses the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the James H. Quillen College of Medicine. Many of the historic buildings were still in use and remained well-preserved in 2007. The original construction style, a twist on Greek revival, was typical of a home built at the turn of the century, and the home included a grand interior stair and the application of exterior columns.

Abstract: An image of a destroyed building and military vehicles driving through Prum, Germany in March 1945. The image was described as "wreckage." Prum is located on the Prum river, and the area was bombed in 1944 and attacked by the Allied forces in 1945. The city is known for the Prum Abbey, and the area is well regarded for its wine production. Located just outside the city is the United States Air Force station, the Prum Air Station, which is still in operation.

Abstract: A side view of the Bürgerbräukeller, informally known as Hitler's Beer Hall, in Munich, Germany. A gathering place for the Nazi party, it was at the Bürgerbräukeller that Hitler launched the failed Beer Hall Putsch in 1923, and had his life threatened in an assassination attempt in 1939. The hall was severely damaged during the attack and never reconstructed.

Abstract: An image of vehicles and troops exiting The Eagles' Nest. The Eagles' Nest, or The Kehlsteinhaus, was built as a 50th birthday present for Adolf Hitler. Located near his home in Berchtesgaden, Germany, The Eagles' Nest was meant to be a retreat for Hitler and a place for him to entertain visiting dignitaries. Photographs and newsreels showed troops relaxing on the patio and drinking wine in May 1945.

Abstract: Marshall "Grandpa" Jones and Roy Joe Baxter pose with Roy Joe's stream-lined Jeep in Munich, Germany, 1945. The Jeep was named "the Hunk." After the war Jones attained fame as a musician on the Grand Ole Opry. At the age of 32 he was already called "Grandpa"-- he got his nickname ten years prior due to his grouchy moods on his morning radio show. The Jeep was most likely a government contracted passenger model made by Ford or Willys. There were over 500,000 of these cars produced during the War.

Abstract: An image of a Nazi with two black soldiers on a horse cart in a field. Verso reads "Nazis in France." Many images owned by American soldiers were stolen from Nazis after the capture of their camps or their homes, and this image may have been taken at an earlier time and then appropriated by Gaskell Warren after his division took hold of Berchtesgaden, Germany where many Nazi had homes.

Title: Nurses and dormitory at the Mountain Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers

Abstract: These are images of nurses and their quarters at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Mountain Branch, Tennessee. The Home originally included a four ward infirmary which was augmented after soldiers began to return after World War I. The Home was increased to help care for veterans suffering from lung scarring from gas attacks, tuberculosis and influenza. There are approximately 43 nurses pictured here, all in white uniforms. The nurses are standing on the steps of their residence, which was built in the Beaux-Arts style, common to the Mess Hall and other buildings on the grounds.

The dates are inferred from Charles Rutherford's promotion certificates.
