Abstract: "Bradley County Corn and Tomato Club Exhibit in Cleveland, Tennessee, November 30, 1912. More than 600 people looked upon it, while more than 100 boys and girls swelled with pride." This photograph comes from the Virginia P. Moore Collection. Ms. Moore, a native Tennessean, began a career as a home demonstration agent in 1909 and subsequently served in various positions related to home economics until 1946. She became internationally known for her work.

Abstract: A cabinet card of Elizabeth West Walton as a young girl, around the age of five. The image was captured by N.B. Bettison, photographer, from Bowling, Green Kentucky. The disclaimer reads: "Duplicates of this picture can be had at any time by ordering." The image is captioned by hand: "Elizabeth West Walton, mother, Lizzie Walton, wife of George Pickering, mother Louise (Jarrott), Paul Walton, Charles, Emma Cook (Davis) and Virginia." The estimated date is based upon another image of Elizabeth Walton in 1886, two years prior to her marriage.

Abstract: This newspaper clipping describes activities of the school, such as providing hot cereal with cream and sugar during cold weather, intended to provide for the children and so that the children will "realize the value of co-operative planning and living." Additionally, students learned what it meant to be an American citizen, including the duty in war time to "take care of all materials, get along with less, avoid spreading rumors, buy War Bonds and Stamps, help in Salvage campaigns, practice personal safety and follow health rules."

Abstract: A photograph of Gaskell Warren and Marcel, a French youth who helped in the military kitchens. Civilians are often used in military kitchens alongside troops who perform "KP" or kitchen duty. KP may be used as a form of punishment for troops, but is often assigned out of necessity. The caption that Warren and Marcel worked in the Hotel may allude to the troops' stationing in hotels in France. Abandoned hotels were used as military housing and as functioning hospital units when necessary.

The child is prossibly a member of the Thompson family from Glen Leven plantation, neighbors of the Overtons. He was possibly visiting during a diptheria outbreak while their home was being disinfected.
