Abstract: 1 tif. A black and white photograph of the poet Langston Hughes during a lecture at Fisk University. Hughes, 1902-1967, was an American poet, novelist, playwright and writer who was best known for his work during the Harlem Renaissance. His best known works include "Montage of a Dream Deferred," "Not Without Laughter," "Songs Called the Blues," and "the Ballad of Booker T.". Hughes was known as the "Poet Laureate of Harlem" and was seen as the voice of the African-American experience during the 20th century.

Abstract: Oak Grove Academy began admitting female students in 1848. Verso side of photograph reads: A Mr. Burkett - Teacher of Oak Grove Academy when the school closed in 1865. Oak Grove Male Academy in Cleveland, Tennessee was the first chartered institution of learning (1837) in the Ocoee District territory which was purchased by the United States from the Cherokee Indians.

Title: MTSU Supports the Disabled

Abstract: MTSU has gone beyond federal requirements to help disabled students since the early 1980s. In 1985, MTSU hired john Harris to direct the Office of Disabled Students Services. One hundred fifteen students with diagnosed disabilities were enrolled at MTSU in 1985. By 1999 that number had risen to 756.
