The University of Tennessee manuscript collections include private papers, literary manuscripts, business records, political files, and historical records primarily relating to Tennessee and the Southeast. Researchers viewing the online collections may wish to inquire further about the materials, via e-mail. When making such inquiries, please cite the materials in question by MS number, series number (if any), box number, and folder number, so that the staff can correctly identify the location of items that interest the researcher.
The manuscripts themselves must be applied for and used in the Special Collections reading room, which is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with the exception of University holidays. (Library hours are posted here.) Special Collections is located in the West Wing of the James D. Hoskins Library, 1401 Cumberland Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee, 37996, Phone: (865) 974-4480. |
