I gladly embrace the present opportunity of writing you a few lines and moore [more].— I arrived home on the 9 [9th] day after I left your house; though I had some vary [very] cold weather & Ruff [Rough] Roads to travel over. My wife & family are well; so also are my friends generly [generally] in this neighbourhood [neighborhood]. For those best of all favors we certanly [certainly] ought to be truely thankfull [truly thankful]; We have had some vary [very] fine we[added: a]ther since I got home for the season of the year, if it has been as fin [fine] in your section in proportion to the climate I should judge you wore allmost [were almost] Ready to go to planting. On Thursday week last was comenced [commenced] the trial of James McCaw in this County charged with the murder of Jonas Bowers ; This trial was certanly [certainly] the most interesting that I ever witnessed in my life; the testimony being wholy circumstantiel [wholly circumstantial], hundreds upon hundreds of citezens [citizens] crowded the Court house during the protracted trial of 8 days but notwithstanding the many attempts to bribe witnesses & all the magic arts that the able council could bring to their assistance the Jury brought in their verdict of Guilty; Guilty; in the first degree. The blood of an inocent [innocent] and unoffending man cries from the our Mother earth for vengence [vengeance]; may this be a warning to the rising generation. Pe[added: r]haps before this shall have reached you; you may have made some arrangements for the sale of our land if so write to me as soon as you can

Tell Mr Loveless unless he is willing to repare [repair] all the fences & clean up the brier thickets &c [et cetera] & put the land on at least 2/3 of it [unclear: oats ] he d had best get an other [another] home; as for the rent it is nothing much any way [anyway] & should you meet with an opportunity of setling [settling] he [added: will] not then be in the way — Give my best respect to your family & except [accept] the same for yourself from M,, S,, Temple To Thos,, [Thomas] E,, Abernathy —[added: }]
