Dixon decd [deceased]__ I have passed the [unclear: numbers ] of the committee on Revolutionary claims to dicision [decision] of that claim, but I have found them opposed to doing any thing this session as they alledged [alleged] that if it was reported upon, no bill could be passed at this session. I have however pressed them to examine the papers & see if they would make a favourable [favorable] report upon it, and to day I have been informed that they will decide against the claim on the ground that they will presume payment, or account of the fact that a portion has been paid & the great length of time which has been permitted to elapse. They say they will require explanation & evidence of the cause of the

delay in making the claim, and how it was that one year was paid,_ They say that the papers which would show the fact of the payment of this claim were burned by by the Brittish [British] in 1814 at the time this capitol was sacked and burned. I again repeat that I have done all in my power to get this claim [unclear: along ] and shall continue to do so as long as I continue to be in a position to aid in this matter. I am your Obt Svt [Obedient Servant] W B Campbell A Fergusson Esqr [Esquire] Carthage Ten [Tennessee][added: I have asked the committee, to make no report at this session on the case of Col Dixons heirs, unless they can make a favourable one So that additional
