This is a letter dated February 4, 1833 from William Fitzgerald in Washington, D.C. to his daughter Adeline Fitzgerald in Dresden, Tennessee. He advises her of his improving health, plans of his return home, and admonishes his daughter concerning her endeavors.

Yours of the 6th ult [ultimo]. I have recd [received]. I am glad to hear my child that you are learning so fast and I see you are improving much in Writing you must persevere and try to excell every girl at school in learning & goodness you must be careful and neat in your attire affectionate to your sister & obedient to your Mother. & preceptor I shall leave here this day four weeks. for Home. I have not had very good health this Winter but am now nearly well.
