I regret exceedingly not being able consistently with a sense of official duty to grant the petition for the relief of your husband at the present time. I will hold it up for further consideration in reference to his health & any further statements in his behalf which may be presented. I would recommend that you apply to some of the public [added: or businesses of [unclear: cincinatti ]] men known in this city, for the character of your husband for industry & integrity & that they believe in his innocence of the charge against him.
