Summary:This is a letter dated May 20, 1846 from William Lytle in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to the Governor of Tennessee, Aaron V. Brown. In this short letter, Payth tells the governor that in light of the war with Mexico, members of a disbanded company of soldiers he once commanded were determined to reorganize and answer their call to duty.

May 20th /46 [1846] To his Excellency A.V [Aaron Venable]. Brown Gov [Governor]. of State of Tennessee

Sir the Company I had the honor of commanding in 1844; was disbanded in March 1845 but since the war with Mexico they have determined to organize again and to be ready when there is a call which we are daily expecting, said Comp [Company], was Called The Murfreesboro Guard , and every exertion shall be and by me to get said Company ready in a few days__
