March 27th 1835Dear Cousin

I received yours of 8th of Feb [February]. I answer it with pleasure but I presume you have all most despared [despaired] of hearing from me I have just got home from the lower country a few days since Col [Colonel] King and my self have purchased a farm in the south and have sent our negroes down in [unclear: fort ] and I had been down to arrange affairs you wish to know whether Dr [Doctor] Moore has returned he has returned from Levington I wrote him while at Lexington to come by your house but he made such a short stay there that he did not receive my letter before he left he would have come by you also wish to know whether I succeded [succeeded] in getting to carry the electrieal [electoral] vote to washington I declined holding a pole for the appointment as I was late getting to Tuskaloosa

It is with sincere repent that that I learned the death of your son Washington Lafayette and I sympathise [sympathize] with you for the loss but Cousin this is a matter on reflection that there is no alternative for and we should compare our selves are much as possible uncle Henry is in very bad health the balance of our friends are all well also at Tuskaloosa I have a fine [unclear: family ] in the south but [unclear: ove ] for it but think I shall pay for it very easy
