For and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to me in hand paid by William B. Lenoir I have and do hereby bargain and sell unto the said William B. Lenoir a negro boy slave about thirteen years old named Lawson, as a sound healthy sensible boy clear of any complaint or impediment whatever (except the big toe on his right foot on which there has lately been a whitloe or fellow and is not entirely well) and I do hereby warrant him as such and will defend the right of said boy unto the said William B. Lenoir his heirs and assigns free and clear from all incumbrances and claims whatever. Given under any hand and seal this 20th of October 1830. Thomas X Jones[added: his mark] [added: Test.
