there is much disappointment caused, by being that governor Huston [Houston] has not as (Expected he would) anything, toward collecting information, from the different states, of their laws & regulations about their schools look at general Howards [Howard's], Circular, printed in the Republican, a few week weeks ago, if you would take the trouble to collect this information, & lay it before the Legislature, you would do for the people, what no other governor [added: of Tennessee] has yet done what these will do, who is to be, I cannot say but were these whose situation admits of it, to [unclear: them ] themselves more worthy I think the people [gap] them as their works deserved Samuel Martin
