This document is a legal indictment by the state of North Carolina against Ezekial Abell, dated February Term 1789. The indictment states that the grand jury of the state indicted Abell for stealing 600 feet of planks from a man named Jacob Nidevor.

The Grand jurors [added: for the state] upon their Oath present and say that Ezekial Abell blacksmith late of the county of Washington [added: Blacksmith] did on the twenty third day of October last past [added: in the County aforesaid] with force and Arms enter on the premises of Jacob Nidevor and he the said Ezekial Abell did then and there forcibly take and carry away of the property of the said Jacob Nidevor six hundred and sixty feet of plank to the damage of the said Jacob and to the evil example of all others in like cases offending and against the peace and dignity of the state
