Summary:This document is the resignation of R. Houton, dated June 8, 1818, and is addressed to the governor of Tennessee, Joseph McMinn. Houton's job, as appointed by the state legislature, was to clear the Tennessee, and Holston rivers in order to make them more navigable.

June 8th 1818 Sir

I was appointed by the last legislature, one of the managers to superintend the removing the obstructions to the navigation of the rivers Holston & Tennessee (see page 161 late Octs)

I am very desirous that some person be appointed that will attend to the duties as I find it out of my power__ you will therefore consider this as my resignation
