November 30th 1845 To his excellency the Governor of Tennessee Dear Sir,

I have this [added: day] delivered John Smith in the county jail at Brownsville __ I am informed that a reward of $250 was offered for him by the governor__

Owing to the coldness of the weather, and the bad road, and distance I have taken no further steps than to confine him in jail safely__

At a suitable time I will apply for the reward__
